ZACH
TAYLOR

Zach is one of my previous wrestling students from the years in 2017-2018. Being one of the assistant wrestling coaches at Ludlowe High School other than training and teaching the wrestlers I always had my camera in one hand and the other up against my face shouting the wrestling moves to my students. After Zach graduated we kept in contact and he really got into body building, as you can see from the photo to the left. We had been talking for a while to do a photoshoot like this and in July of this year we made it happen.

I got into Photography through sports and I love mixing portraits in with this genre because while it is important to capture the athlete in action I think its so fascinating to capture them behind the scenes and not separate them from their sport but add them together to elevate them as people more than their sport. People have always been my favorite thing to photograph and I have found that when they are being photographed doing something they are passionate about they don’t hold back who they are.

I think some of the greatest moments in sports to capture is the loss the athlete faces in a sport. Of course the victory elevates the people who see it and sends their spirit soaring but when you see someone in a defeated state don’t you feel like you can relate to that person more? It is such a melancholy feeling but it’s a huge part of the sport and those moments remind us to stay humble and go get that next victory with more tenacity.
