TAGGING ALONG FOR THE SHOOT…
Prime Pic and I have known each other for 3 years now and we have pushed each other creatively so much, especially in 2021 and we have become good friends. We constantly are checking up on each other’s projects and very frequently inviting each other on our shoots and asking for tips for our business’s.
This shoot in particular is for his biggest project yet, his own magazine that he has been developing since March of this year.
He is featuring 6 artists that reside in CT and that have impacted his creative journey and motivated him in his craft.
This is Bry’Nt, he is an R&B artist and rapper from CT.
Prime hit me up the morning of the shoot to see if I was free to swing by Silver Sands State park in the evening, I checked the schedule and didn’t have any shoots that day so I was definitely down to tag along. We had a couple of hours of sunlight to gather these images and we captured some amazing shots.
We shot from all angles, nothing was a bad idea, and it was a success!
It’s so awesome to collaborate with friends who have same and different passions in the creative realm.
A lot of people ask me, “is it worth it shooting for free?”
You will hear many different answers and exceptions but ultimately the freedom is up to you to decide.
For shoots like this I don’t ask my friends to pay me money.
This year is different from the rest, I have been able to be blessed with a lot of consistent client work and what comes with that is consistent money.
This is my profession and how I make a living, but it is not all about the money.
I started photography for the pure joy that it made me joyful.
There have been circumstances where friends have asked me to help second shoot or with concepts and I have asked to be paid and they paid me.
It is built off of friendship and mutual respect for each ones craft.
I have invited friends to help me with shoots or capture BTS and they asked me to pay them and I don’t question it because I want to pay them, and sometimes I can’t and they respect that as well.
I have so much more to say on the subject but that is for another time.
